Recently, I was thinking of a new way to add to my party business while still using my talents. Many birthday party companies like mine have a mascot to dress up and entertain the children at a party. However, my business is quite small and employs very few people. This is mostly so that I can keep my prices down.
After much brainstorming, I decided to utilize my talents. I used to be involved in a puppet ministry team while in college, so I thought I would try to use my puppeteering talents and get a mascot that is versatile and different. After some internet searching, I had found him, big brown bear puppet the size of a toddler, Charley Bear!
The awesome thing about Charley is that I can dress him up, and he can be a pirate, a cowboy, or *gasp* a princess when needed. The best part is that it lets me do something I have not done in so long and miss.
Charley and I put on our first performance this week for a preschool. I was very nervous because this would really let me see if this will actually work. To my surprise and delight, the kids went wild. I had fun, stepped out of my comfort zone and got goofy for the sake of seeing children smile. It was such a rush! Charley had a great time too I think, even though the kids tugged on his nose a bit too hard after the show when I showed some of them how he works.
I learned two lessons this past week. First, use your talents to make things work for you--in your life, your job, whatever! Second, I still love playing with teddy bears! So welcome home Charley Bear!
